Older residents and healthcare jobs in Nebraska
Nebraska nursing assistants are a large bench beside older residents, not a footnote under the nurse count.
The plan quoted registered nurses per older resident and left assistants off the slide as if they were scarce by default.
Nebraska has 368,331 residents age 65 and over.
Registered nurses number 24,720, which is 67.11 jobs for every 1,000 of those residents.
That density is the sort key.
It is not a vacancy rate.
Assistant jobs total 16,450, or 44.66 on the same measure.
There are 13,660 aides doing home health and personal care, or 37.09.
Assistants are closer to the nurse count than a footnote implies.
If the open req is assistants, lead with their figure.

Takeaways
- The all-age civilian population in this file is 2,011,666, and it will wreck the denominator if you swap it in.
- Nebraska is 4 of 51 on the nurse measure. Aides are not what the rank is measuring.
- Job counts are OEWS for May 2025. Residents are the civilian population on July 1, 2025. Neither is an applicant list.
- Quote the assistant density when the manager asks whether the state can staff long-term care.
For recruiters
- Name the license before you cite the nurse density.
- Keep the older-resident denominator visible so a headcount cannot be briefed as a shortage.

Methodology
Jobs are OEWS May 2025 state employment for registered nurses, nursing assistants, and home health and personal care aides. Residents are the Census Population Estimates Program civilian population age 65 and over on July 1, 2025, Vintage 2025. This is not the ACS tabulation; the ACS API was not used. Jobs per 1,000 residents equals jobs times 1,000 divided by that resident count. It is not a shortage rate and it is not a count of job listings. Areas are ordered by registered-nurse jobs per 1,000 residents age 65 and over. Nebraska is 4 of 51. Total civilian population in the same file is 2,011,666.
